Farmers are picking roses in An'ning City.
In Yunnan Province, farmers call the first crop of blooming edible roses each year "toushui flower". Toushui flowers have thick petals, strong fragrances, and slight astringency, which enable the food made by these flowers to have a stronger aroma and sweetness. More than 9,000 mu (1 hectare equals 15 mu) of edible roses are in full bloom in An'ning City, SW China's Yunnan Province, from late April to mid-May. Locals not only use fresh roses to make traditional food like rose flower cakes and rose jam but also make rose feast with roses, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and meat.
