Gyirong County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region is expected to see more rainfall in the coming days, with significant nighttime precipitation, the National Meteorological Center said on Sunday.
From Sunday to Monday, Gyirong will experience light to moderate rain, and on Tuesday, it will see moderate to heavy rain at night, according to the forecast.
The rain comes as rescue and relief efforts are accelerating after a mudslide struck Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border on Aug. 26.
A yellow alert for geological disaster risks, the third tier in China's four-level warning system, was jointly issued at 6 p.m. by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the China Meteorological Administration. It warned of relatively high risks in parts of southern Xizang, including the Gyirong area, from 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday.
Meteorological authorities advised caution over the next few days in the Gyirong Port area due to rainfall and elevated geological disaster risks. Drivers of rescue vehicles are urged to watch for slippery roads on routes from Xigaze to Gyirong and from Gyirong to Gyirong Port.
