Jordan looks forward to expanding cooperation with China into areas such as green energy, scientific innovation, tourism and civil aviation, said King Abdullah II of Jordan.
China is a major global economic and political force and has become a global model for development and economic progress, and Jordan expects to further deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, the king said in an exclusive interview ahead of his visit to China starting Tuesday.
"The deep-rooted relationship between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the People's Republic of China serves as a strong foundation for advancing our shared priorities and fostering innovation and greater prosperity for our peoples," he said.
King Abdullah II said he looks forward to the upcoming visit, which he hopes will elevate the partnership between the two nations to a higher level.
Since the establishment of the Jordan-China strategic partnership in 2015, "our bilateral relations have achieved substantial progress," the king said. "Cooperation has expanded beyond traditional diplomatic ties to include trade and investment, infrastructure, education, healthcare and cultural exchanges."
He said China has also been a key partner in Jordan's public sector capacity building. Between 2015 and 2025, thousands of Jordanians in the public and private sectors have benefited from training programs offered by the Chinese government.
"Moreover, Chinese energy investments in Jordan have contributed significantly to our self-sufficiency and diversification strategy," the king said.
The Jordanian side looks to expand cooperation into areas such as green energy, scientific innovation, tourism and civil aviation, he said.
Noting that Jordan is well positioned to serve as a regional manufacturing and export hub, King Abdullah II said that Jordan's strategic location, resources and skilled youth, coupled with China's economic strength, technology expertise and global reach, create exceptional opportunities to broaden cooperation.
"We also see strong potential for deeper cooperation with China by positioning Jordan as a preferred filming destination for the Chinese film industry, building on our superior production capabilities and unique filming locations," he said.
Regarding the situation in the region, King Abdullah II pointed out that the Palestinian issue remains the core issue in the region. Unless addressed, he warned, the region will remain vulnerable to recurring cycles of violence that could become more severe and broader in scope, with repercussions extending far beyond its borders.
He said Jordan has been and will continue to focus on establishing regional calm, and looks to coordinate with China, a key global player and partner, to use its considerable influence and voice on the international stage to push for the realization of the two-state solution.
"As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China plays an important role in safeguarding international peace and security," he said.
He also said Global South countries are playing an increasingly important role in international affairs, becoming more central to the global economy and security and to advancing sustainable development. This further reinforces the importance of safeguarding the international order based on international law.
On the relationship between China and Arab countries, King Abdullah II said that the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Arab countries is a testament to a relationship that has endured regional crises and evolution. Its durability comes from ongoing practical engagement and a dedication to the pursuit of common ground and mutual interests.
"There is also great untapped potential that we can further explore," he said. "Arab countries stand to benefit greatly from China's experience."
