Kunming listed on the Lancang-Mekong Tourist Cities Cooperation Alliance

A reporter learned from the recent Seminar on Lancang-Mekong Tourist Cities Cooperation Alliance that Kunming had become one of the first 13 Chinese cities of the alliance. The other 12 Chinese cities are Chongqing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Changsha, Guangzhou, Nanning, Haikou, Chengdu, Guiyang, Xi 'an and Shenzhen.

In 2017, Kunming and other five tourist hot spots in Yunnan established Kunming International Friendship Cities Tourism Alliance with five foreign friendship cities, including Yangon, Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Pokhara, and Kuching. Over the past three years, the vision of the alliance has been put into practice, further improving its appeal to international friendship cities and providing rich experience for the cooperation among Lancang-Mekong Tourist Cities.

“With the geographical advantage of facing South Asia and Southeast Asia, Yunnan will accelerate its development as a regional international city and actively promote regional cooperation among Lancang-Mekong Tourist Cities. We will also actively apply for holding the conference of Lancang-Mekong Tourist Cities Cooperation Alliance in in 2021,” a person in charge of Kunming Culture and Tourism Bureau said.

In the meantime, Kunming actively introduces competitive international tourism groups at home and abroad to integrate resources and build Lancang-Mekong golden self-drive tour routes. Competent cultural tourism enterprises in Kunming are supported to develop various cultural and tourism projects overseas as well.

In 2015, Foreign Ministers of China, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam reached broad consensus to formally launch the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and announce the formal establishment of the LMC mechanism.
