Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori on Monday exchanged congratulations on the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Noting that China and Peru are comprehensive strategic partners, Xi said bilateral relations have withstood changes in the international landscape and maintained sound development momentum over the past 55 years.
Political mutual trust between the two countries has grown stronger, practical cooperation across various fields has yielded fruitful results, and friendship between the two peoples has taken deep root, Xi said, noting that China appreciates Peru's consistent adherence to the one-China principle.
The protocol upgrading the China-Peru free trade agreement took effect on Sunday. It is believed that it will give a strong boost to the upgrade of the China-Peru economic and trade cooperation, and will inject fresh impetus into the development of bilateral relations, Xi said.
Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Peru ties, and stands ready to work with President Fujimori to take the 55th anniversary of ties as a new starting point to steer bilateral relations to new heights for the greater benefits of the two peoples.
Fujimori, for her part, said that Peru and China have jointly forged a robust bond featuring friendship, mutual respect and cooperation.
Bilateral relations have continuously drawn strength from the traditional friendship between the two peoples, and have deepened and expanded within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership, she said.
Fujimori said the Peruvian side reaffirmed its firm commitment to the one-China principle and stands ready to continue strengthening political dialogue and cooperation with China.
