The 16-episode web series Shuilong Yin has captivated audiences on iQiyi, with its mist-shrouded "Xianxia landscapes" capturing the imagination of viewers. And the real-life locations behind these scenes are all right here in Kunming.

From the tranquil shores of Dianchi Lake and the towering peaks of the Stone Forest to ancient bridge reflections and rustic fishing village boardwalks—Kunming's natural beauty has once again captured the public's attention, thanks to the series. Here's your practical guide to visiting the filming locations and stepping directly into the enchanting scenes you saw on screen.

Xishan: The Best Vantage Point over Dianchi Lake

Known as the "Finest Scenic Spot in Central Yunnan," Xishan Mountain offers the perfect vantage point for sweeping views of Dianchi Lake. With mountain trails weaving through historic sites, it's a place best explored at a leisurely pace—plan to spend half a day here.

Dragon Gate Grottoes Viewing Platform: This is the second viewing platform encountered after entering the Dragon Gate Grottoes. Visit between 7:00–9:00 AM or after 4:00 PM. The soft, diffused light, enhanced by morning mist or evening sunset, lends a truly ethereal quality to your photographs. Employ a telephoto lens to perfectly frame your subject, the stone railing, and the distant Dianchi Lake, creating a composition with exquisite depth and layers.

Ancient Path from Taihua Temple to Sanqing Pavilion: This stone path, winding between the two attractions, is enveloped by bamboo groves. Afternoon sunlight filters through, casting dappled shadows, making it an ideal setting for capturing moments of leisurely strolls or quiet contemplation.

Lingxu Pavilion: On the west-facing window on the second floor, about half an hour before sunset, golden light streams through the wooden lattice. Framing your photograph with the window itself will imbue it with a captivating narrative depth.

Transportation: Take Metro Line 3 to Western Hills Park Station, then ascend via cable car. After exploring, descend towards Taihua Temple and enjoy a meal at The Tea-Horse Flower Street.

Dongfengba Seven-Arch Floating Bridge: Dianchi Lake's "Iconic Yunjin Night Market"

This bridge, situated on the Caohai section of Dianchi Lake, offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints for the "Sleeping Beauty" silhouette of Xishan. Its design is inspired by "Yunjin Night Market," one of the eight classic scenic wonders of ancient Kunming.

The Third Arch Reflection: Position yourself on the south bank of the bridge, directly facing the third arch from the north. On a calm, sunny day between 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM, when the water is perfectly still, bring your camera close to the surface to capture a flawless symmetrical reflection.

Willow-Shaded Stone Platform on the East Bank: The light beneath the willows in the afternoon is soft and even—ideal for capturing serene moments of rest or reading. From here, a short walk leads to the nearby Ganggouwei Wetland, Kunming's answer to the "Sky Mirror," offering breathtaking water reflections at sunset.

Yanglingang Fishing Village: Rustic Serenity by Dianchi Lake

This small fishing village retains its original charm, untouched by crowds, offering only tranquil lake vistas and serene natural beauty.

Wooden Boardwalk: Follow the path to the village's furthest point, where a wooden boardwalk extends into Dianchi Lake. Visit at sunrise or during the "Blue Hour"—the twenty minutes after sunset—to capture the perfect frame of a solitary figure against the vast expanse of sky and water.

Old Fishing Boat by the Shore: Near the parking area at the village entrance, a weathered blue fishing boat rests by the water's edge. Visit in the late morning (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM) for front-lit photography, which will bring out the richest colors.

Transportation: Public transport does not directly serve this location. Your best options are to drive or take a taxi. Simply set your navigation to "Yanglingang."

Stone Forest: A Xianxia Realm Amidst Karst Wonders

As a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, the Stone Forest's dramatic karst formations evoke a sense of otherworldly fantasy.

The Iconic Reflection at Jianfengchi: Make a beeline for the viewing platform directly opposite Jianfengchi as soon as the park opens (around 8:30 AM). At this time, crowds are minimal, the water is perfectly still, and the reflections are at their absolute clearest.

Bushao Mountain Stone Forest Maze: In the narrow passage just before the "Extremely Narrow Path" crevice, sunlight streams through the stone pillars between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, creating a breathtaking "heavenly light" effect.

Transportation: Take the direct tourist bus from Kunming East Coach Station (approx. 34 RMB, 1.5 hours) or a high-speed train to Shilin West Station. Admission is 130 RMB, and the 25 RMB electric shuttle is highly recommended. Proposed route: Grand Stone Forest → Jianfengchi → Wangfeng Pavilion → Bushao Mountain → Small Stone Forest.

Suggested Itinerary

Two-Day Self-Drive Loop: Day one: Explore Xishan and the Seven-Arch Floating Bridge, culminating with a sunset viewing at Haigeng Dam. Day two: Visit Yanglingang Fishing Village in the morning, followed by an afternoon trip to the Stone Forest.

Public Transit Option: For a more relaxed experience using public transport, consider extending the itinerary to three days.

Tips: Kunming experiences intense sunshine and a notable temperature difference between day and night. Pack a sun hat, a light jacket, and comfortable hiking shoes. Don't forget your camera and a power bank. For an added touch of flair and to enhance your "Xianxia" photos, consider bringing an oil-paper umbrella or a folding fan – they make excellent props. Equipped with these essentials, you'll be ready to shoot your very own "Xianxia" masterpiece.
