A Flower-Made Peacock Spreads Its Feathers at Dianchi Lake, ushering in Spring Festival Romance in Kunming.
On the eve of the Spring Festival, a breathtaking spectacle unfolded on the eastern shore of Dianchi Lake in Dounan: a colossal peacock, crafted from millions of flowers and set against the earth as its canvas, spread its magnificent feathers alongside cascading terraced flower fields to welcome visitors. The grand opening of Dianpan Huawu (Rainbow Flower Sea) Park added another dazzling flourish to Kunming’s global image as the “Spring City and Flower Capital of The World.”

With a total investment of over 12 million CNY, this new culture and tourism landmark has dedicated more than 7.2 million CNY to planting and landscaping. Using flowers as its medium, the project infuses ideas of ecological sustainability, a flower-inspired lifestyle and eastern blessings into every corner of its floral scenery. It serves not only as a vivid expression of the “Flower Capital of Asia” engaging with the world, but also as a new step for Chenggong to deepen the "flower economy" and stimulate eco-friendly consumption.
Breaking Tradition: A Three-Dimensional Sea of Flowers Brimming with Eastern Romance.
Unlike the one-sided viewing experience of traditional flat flower fields, the Dounan Rainbow Flower Sea is built around the concepts of “three-dimensional form, full-time immersion and narrative experience.” It offers a dreamlike garden that visitors can walk through, interact with and fully sense. Spanning 70,000 square meters, the park features ten core zones thoughtfully arranged, with seasonal scenery year-round and flowers blooming at every turn.

A 16.8-Meter Giant Peacock: Stunning from Every Angle.
The most attractive sight of the flower sea is undoubtedly this three-dimensional peacock sculpture which can be enjoyed from all angles. Crafted from around 200,000 pots of low-growing flowers, it rises to 16.8 meters in height-and its striking beauty alone is enough to light up social media feeds.
The design team chose yellow, purple and blue blooms, arranging them in a “gradient inlay” workmanship. The colors transition naturally from the inside out, outlining vivid feather textures, as if a graceful peacock perches by the shore of Dianchi Lake.

Revealing New Views with Every Step: Offering a Variety of Romantic Experiences.

Succulent Wonderland: Inspired by Yunnan’s unique culture, it features adorable succulent sculptures of Asian elephant families and wild mushrooms. The lively elephants exude warmth and family love, while the mushroom designs bring back childhood joy in the rainy forest-a perfect spot for family fun and photo moments.

Tulip Garden: 300,000 tulips burst into bloom. The garden uses the “flower of love” as a symbolic link to build a cultural bridge between Dounan and the Netherlands. Every click is a romantic blockbuster.

Garden of Flowers: With 400,000 pots of blooms artfully arranged, waves of color and varied heights form a vibrant musical score across the landscape. Winding paths weave through the blossoms, immersing you in a sea of flowers where every step brings a delightful encounter with beauty.
Blooms That Inspire: A New Era of Emotional Experiences.

“Through flowers, we convey blessings; through beautiful landscapes, we express cultural confidence,” said the park’s director. Centered on the integrated development of floral ecology, landscapes, lifestyle, industry, and culture, the Dounan Rainbow Flower Sea draws on Yunnan’s unique natural resources to promote a deeper fusion between the flower industry and eco-cultural tourism. In doing so, it helps share Kunming’s reputation as a city where spring lasts all year round with audiences around the world. As one visitor put it: “It feels truly Yunnan—flowers in full bloom, a warm spring atmosphere, fresh air, and an even more beautiful Dianchi Lake. It lifts your spirits the moment you arrive.”
