Kunming’s Winter Special: Enjoy Gingko Views and Red-Billed Gulls from a Double-Decker Bus

Kunming has launched a seasonal bus route titled Ginkgo Autumn Charm: Seagull Watching & Scenic Tour. Passengers can board a double-decker bus that travels along Wenlin Street, Cuihu Park, and the Yunnan Military Academy, before ending at the Haigeng Dam.

Departing from the North Depot, the route links some of the most distinctive winter landscapes in the city. Along the way, passengers can admire the golden ginkgo leaves on Wenlin Street, immerse themselves in the historic atmosphere of the Yunnan Military Academy, and learn stories behind each landmark from an onboard guide, who also shares insights into Kunming’s local culture. With a round-trip ticket, passengers may get off and explore at any stop, then continue the journey on a subsequent bus.

The themed route service has drawn visitors of all ages—from elderly travelers and families with children to young people eager for photos and social-media check-ins. “This route covers many of Kunming’s famous attractions and goes straight to Haigeng Dam. It’s a wonderful experience to sightsee from the double-decker bus,” one passenger said.

During the black-headed gulls season, the route operates on weekends and public holidays, with five departures each day at 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, and 15:00. Passengers can board at the North Depot or at stops along the way. Tickets are priced at 25 yuan for a single trip and 35 yuan for a round trip. All paying passengers will also receive a souvenir ticket.

According to the guide, a single-trip ticket is valid for one boarding, while a round-trip ticket allows unlimited rides on the route throughout the day, giving visitors the flexibility to structure their sightseeing as they wish.
