A new high-speed railway between Yunnan's Kunming and Fujian's Xiamen which will pass through Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has entered the planning stage, officials from Liuzhou announced on March 26.
The railway, connecting the Pan-Pearl River Delta horizontally, will stretch 1,366 kilometers.
It will start from Kunming and run through Guangxi cities, namely Baise, Hechi, Liuzhou and Hezhou, before entering Guangdong province, linking cities like Qingyuan, Shaoguan, Heyuan and Meizhou. It will then go on to Fujian province, connecting Zhangzhou and Xiamen.
It is expected that, upon its completion, the new railway line will bring convenience for Hechi residents wishing to travel to famous tourism cities such as Kunming and Xiamen.
Moreover, it will form a convenient rail transport channel with a large transportation capacity, connecting the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits, the Pearl River Delta, and central and western part of China.
China will hold the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in Kunming City, from Oct. 11 to 24.
