Construction work in China-Nepal Friendship Industrial Park located in Nepal's eastern Jhapa district will begin in early 2021, a senior official of a company developing the project said.
The industrial park, the first of its kind, is being developed with Chinese investment.
Govinda Thapa, president of Damak Clean Industrial Park, a Nepali joint venture partner company established to develop the industrial park, told Xinhua that necessary preparations have been completed to a large extent to start the construction works.
"The key tasks such as preparing a detailed project report (DPR) and site clearance have been completed," he said. "We are receiving a part of foreign direct investment from China within a few days."
Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone Investment Development Company Limited and Jing Ping Joint Creation Construction Project Development Co. Ltd are other joint venture partners from China.
Earlier this week, Investment Board Nepal, which facilitated the Chinese investment for the project, stated in a press statement that the Damak Clean Energy Park had submitted the DPR of the proposed project in late November.
As per the proposals of the developers, they plan to establish white goods industrial park; transportation equipment industrial park; textile and garments industrial park; food processing industrial park and electronic information industrial park. The logistic park; scientific and technical innovation and training park are other supporting industries to be established there.
"Basically plants related to electric vehicles, textile and garments and electric and solar equipment will be established," said Thapa. "A total of 192 large, medium and small factories are expected to be set up inside the Nepal China Industrial Park in the first phase. The Chinese companies are expected to establish at least 25 large factories targeting Nepali and South Asian markets."
The project is supposed to be completed in six phases.
