Craftsmen who can grind scissors and knives become rarer and rarer in Kunming

Long time ago, local Kunming people could always see figures of craftsmen who excel in grinding scissors and knives with an emery wheel machine walking on the street in Kunming.
Nowadays, it seems a little harder to see their figures in the city. But their crying sounds about asking people to grind scissors and kitchen knives still resound in Kunming people’s minds.
In a classical Beijing opera The Red Lantern, a figure of a slim old man wearing a cap, a worn-out cotton-padded jacket, shouldering a short bench with an emery wheel machine, was very impressive.
The old man’s voice of "grinding scissors and knives" remains living in audience's hearts. This old man is also a knife grinding craftsman.
In the latest days, an old man who is adept at grinding scissors and knives emerges on Kunming’s streets. He, 65 years old, comes from Anhui province.
"Kunming is a nice place to stay. The weather here is very warm all the year round. I want to earn my living and stay in the city by grinding scissors and kitchen knives," the old man said.
Therefore, the sound with which local Kunming people are very familiar about grinding scissors and kitchen knives rings out again in Kunming.
